I was contacted by a marketing group, and asked if I’d be willing to
let one of their clients post a professional article on my website. I
won’t name the company they were representing but the nature of what
they sold got me to thinking. Sex toys have been around for a long time.
Just how long I had no idea. So I decided to look it up, and I was
amazed at what I found.
The oldest sex toy was found in Germany, in a cave. It’s a 30,000-year-old, 8 inch siltstone phallus that also doubled, now get this, as a tool to ignite fires. My first thought was, really, so both ends do the same thing? I had to wonder how they knew what the prehistoric tool was used for. Researchers went on to explain that the polished end had carved rings around it that easily identified what it was used for. The other end had marks that were obviously used for striking flints.
I wish I could show you the picture because it looks like nothing I would have expected to see with regard to a sex toy. Kind of makes me think of a cement emery board. I’ve included a link so you can check it out. There’s nothing pretty about it, but then again, it doesn’t have to be pretty as long as it does what it’s supposed to do.
The multi-purpose tool was apparently broken, and put back together after the discarded pieces were found. I guess they used it to start one too many fires, huh?
What is Siltstone? It’s a sedimentary rock which has a grain size in the silt range, finer than sandstone and coarser than claystones. Wikipedia
