Jamie Snow
and Nathan Bloom, my characters are as usual, dear to me.
Jamie has
battled all his life with his strange, fantastic gift. His is the character
that brings the element of fantasy to the story. The inspiration behind the
creation of this character came, weirdly enough, in the summer, when I visited
a ruined abbey. In the grounds were flowering shrubs that I’d never encountered
before. From a distance, the flowers looked like frost, and as I drew close,
into my mind came the idea of Jamie, a sprite who loves cold, ice, frost, and
to comfort himself in the warm weather, he decorated the shrubs with frost
flowers.
Nathan
Bloom is the perfect partner for Jamie—gorgeous, calm, loving and open. He’s
looking for love. He’s onto Jamie’s gifts long before he lets Jamie know it.
This is a love story—romantic, sexy, hopeful.

Read a teaser:
Jamie Snow
sat alongside Nathan. He glanced across at the man who stirred his frosty
heart. He’s so attractive. Jamie
hadn’t loved in a long time. He felt more than ready for it—longed for it on
lonely nights. He wasn’t about to give up on the chance that this man might
want a lover, that he was gay wasn’t in question. No straight guy looked the
way he had at another man.
“My name’s
Jamie, Jamie Snow.” He softened his voice as he spoke. The man beside him
inspired tenderness and he felt a little prick of guilt. Using the weather to
flirt with him had been inspired but maybe a little naughty.
Nathan
drove the truck into a wide car lot that Jamie hadn’t known existed behind the
furniture store on the end of the main street. “Here we are. The store allows
us to leave the bigger rigs here every year. Jamie Snow—that’s an interesting
name for a meteorologist—mine’s Nathan Bloom.”
Jamie’s
smile infused his tone. “Yes. People tease me sometimes at work, they’ll know
we’ve forecast it and as I walk by they’ll say, ‘here comes the snow,’ but I
don’t mind. I like this name.”
“You’ve had
others?” Nathan asked with a laugh.
Jamie
didn’t want to reply. He waited. I won’t
be lying to this lovely guy if I don’t answer.
Nathan
turned off the truck engine and twisted to talk to Jamie. “It’s a cool name.
Where do you live?”
It appeared
he’d forgotten his question.
Happiness
trickled into Jamie’s soul that the attractive man beside him liked his name, and used the word, cool. Eagerly, Jamie
told Nathan his address on the outskirts of the town.
Nathan
grinned, his eyes reflecting Jamie’s emotion. “I know it well. I live a couple
of streets south from there.”

Excerpt:
Thorne sat across the desk from his new employer and tried
unsuccessfully to shake away the incredulous feeling gnawing at his gut. He’d
come to Westmore with the understanding that this would be a two-week Ops
mission to locate and destroy the violent hybrid wolves he’d been hearing
about. They a role to play in his father’s death, he was certain of it, and now
he could finally get the answers he was seeking and kill a few in the process.
But, as he sat across from the Westmore Pack Alpha, he found himself staring at
the man, completely disbelieving his ears.
“That wasn’t the job.”
“I want her protected.” Thorne met Carrick’s eyes, and
Thorne struggled to hold in his frustration. This was why he’d been brought to
the famed Westmore Estate? The Alpha was legendary for taking down his
predecessors with nothing but brains and his own two hands…but to suggest he
babysit a female? He was no one’s nanny.
“You want me to be a bodyguard? For a woman?” Thorne
sputtered and erupted from the chair, stalking to the window. He kept one eye
on the comings and goings outside and another on the man behind the desk.
Thorne had come at night, as requested, to see the estate at its most
vulnerable. What he hadn’t expected was to be insulted.
“Not just a woman. My sister. And the job is a trial period
for two weeks.”
“And after?”
The Alpha thrummed his fingers on the desk. “We’ll talk
about that if you’re still here.”
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
The door opened and another man entered, closing it behind
him. Thorne eyed the man and waited to be introduced. The pinched look of the
other man’s mouth and worry lines in his face indicated he cared about this
woman. Interesting.
“Where is she?” the Alpha demanded.
“Probably at the shelter again. She’s not in her room and the
guard at the front gate said she took off around eight this morning. Something
about an adoption drive at Barks.”
“Thorne, this is Reid, my second in command.” Carrick ran
his hand through his mane of dark hair and frowned. “Jesus, she knows I want
her to be careful. I keep telling her to quit, but she won’t listen. After what
happened with that fucking dragon…”
The other man, Reid, unconsciously rubbed at his arm.
“You were injured.” Thorne stepped away from the window and
moved deeper into the room. He could sense their unease. Perhaps something more
was happening here than met the eye.
“I was.”
Dragons? Now that was interesting.
“I was told there were hybrid wolves.”
“Originally, that was the contract. Yes.” Carrick rose from
the chair, came around the desk, and leaned against it. “But we’ve come to find
out that the previous alpha may still have some support out there.”
“A dragon?” Thorne raised an eyebrow. Dragon kind and Night
Wing gargoyles were not on friendly terms. Territorial disputes in his homeland
had made them natural enemies. But here? That would remain to be seen. Not that
he would mind tangling with one.
“An old bastard of a firefighter, too. Seemed like he was
setting more blazes at the end rather than putting them down.” Carrick’s lips thinned
and his jaw clenched. “He endangered the life of my mate.”
Thorne considered the Alpha carefully.
“If you’ve rooted him out, then why am I here?”
“He’s not the only one,” Reid bit out. “We know there are
more out there. What remains to be seen are when and where they choose to rear
their ugly heads.”
“Why don’t you go to them?” It seemed a simple question, but
the shuttered looks from the men in front of him stopped the suggestion before
it could go any further.
“The Yule Gathering is coming and I want no complications.
Likely as not, there are more of them out there and I won’t take a chance with
my mate, my sister, or my pack. I spoke with your last employer and he said you
were the best, most unobtrusive operative he had.”
“I am.”
And Thorne could find the creatures the Alpha sought. All he
had to do was give the command.
Thorne wasn’t boasting. It was the truth. People paid for
his work and paid him well.
“Good,” Reid snorted. “If you’re tailing Jess, you’re going
to need it.”
“Is she your mate, this…Jess?”
“No.” A shade of pink crept up the sides of the other man’s
face. “More like…a sister, if you want to know the truth.”
The Alpha sighed. “And she’s stubborn.”
“Yeah…”
The two men glanced at each other, a pregnant pause filling
the room. Any information withheld could jeopardize Thorne meeting whatever
goal they had in mind.
“What aren’t you telling me?”
“Her last bodyguard didn’t make it longer than a day.”
Carrick closed his eyes, a twitch of humor playing at his lips.
This ought to be good.
“May I ask why?”
“He, ugh…went up in flames.” Reid coughed, but underneath
the sound Thorne was certain he heard a note of laughter.
Flames?
“What did she do, torch him?”
“Not exactly.” Carrick cleared his throat and turned his
face away in what Thorne was sure was an effort to compose himself.
Were they hinting he couldn’t handle a woman? It didn’t
sound like she needed protection in the least.
Thorne’s lips curved up in a humorless smile. “If she’s such
a force of nature, then why the protection? I thought your females were
fierce.”
Reid met Carrick’s gaze and the Alpha cleared his throat
until his second glanced away, his eyes finding Thorne’s.
“Tell him.”
“She can’t shift.” The Alpha sighed.
Reid crossed his arms over his chest. “Won’t shift. There’s
a difference. She can but she doesn’t want to.”
“I don’t accept that.” Carrick pushed off from the desk and
went to the window.
“Well, you’d better start. You and I both know that bastard
damaged her. She may be strong for a female, but her wolf is broken,” Reid
replied, his tone filled with frustration.
Thorne’s stomach lurched at the thought. To hear that her
beast had been harmed was unacceptable. War with men he understood well, but
not females. Women being abused made his skin crawl. He’d seen much in his line
of work, but that was one thing he would not tolerate. It took a good bit of
doing to squelch an animal. He should know.
“What happened?”
“You’ve heard what took place here? What the previous alpha
did? The atrocities and the genetic experiments?” Reid asked with a bitter
twist of his lips.
“I have. The overthrow of the previous regime was
unavoidable. Your prowess in battle is legendary.” He nodded to Carrick in a
show of respect. He’d found the main source but some of the tendrils remained.
And he fucking wanted to tear out the rest of them by the roots. That was why
he came here.
Reid shook his head. “That’s not what I mean. He took
them…the girls. The women. He…”
“Stop.” Carrick’s voice was strained and his stance was
tense. “We don’t need to hash out any of the details.”
Deck the halls with all things kinky. Jonas is an incubus
with an incurable lust for women, gingerbread, and holiday lights. He needs one
more soul to meet his quota. Amid the baubles and frivolity of the Winter
Carnival, he meets Holly Pendleton—a woman with emerald green eyes and a body
built for sin—and marks her as the final soul to end his contract. But now
Jonas faces a heart-wrenching decision: take what he needs to feed his hunger,
or sacrifice himself for the woman who has lit his own demonic soul on fire.
Tied up with red ribbons, Holly just might be Jonas's deepest Christmas wish
and the one woman who could set him free.
Holly Pendleton is still recovering from the death of her
husband and Dom. The holidays are especially lonely until a dark stranger walks
in the door to Harlowe's Bookery and Christmas Shoppe. The man's enigmatic gaze
holds her and ignites her body and her mind. When Holly accepts a job to
decorate the sexy client's apartment, she unknowingly steps into an age-old
battle between the forces of darkness. Jonas Corsair is a man who makes her
blood run hot and her dreams even hotter. But will she survive his hold on her
soul?
Holly Pendleton balanced a pile of books in her arms and
made her way out of the stockroom. She glanced over at her boss and best
friend, Gracie Harlowe, at the register and smiled. She enjoyed the busy throng
of people at the winter carnival and usually looked forward to it. She had
worked other retail jobs in the historic downtown shopping district, but
working here was a dream come true. When Gracie had called her up three months
ago and offered her the assistant manager’s job, she had taken it and hadn’t
looked back.
Teetering on the edge of depression for months after
watching her husband die of cancer, Holly was having a hard time finding the
holiday spirit this year.
Derek had only been thirty-four, she thought bitterly.
They’d been married for nine years, but she had known him since she was a geeky
freshman in high school. The hole was too big to fill, and it left her feeling
empty.
Still, she was grateful to Gracie for kicking her in the
pants and getting her out of bed and back into the world again. Just in time
for the holidays too. It was a special time that she and Derek had always
shared. He would have wanted her to be happy.
She laid the stack of Christmas cookie books on a festive
table near the window display and straightened the array of titles. Her gaze
wandered to the small kitchen at the back of the store, and she made a mental
note to grab some more cookies to refill the party trays on the dessert table.
“Holly!” Gracie waved her arms. “Can you grab me another stack
of Fifty Shades of Grey?”
She glanced at the display where the books were and found
they were down to one copy. Not good. Sales had started to slow down, but
erotica had been steadily increasing over the past few months. It made her
laugh to see the smut novels near the holiday displays, but it made the
customers happy, so who was she to quibble? Besides, she loved reading them
herself.
“I’ll get them!” Holly wound her way back into the stockroom
and yanked a box off the overstock shelves. She grabbed a box cutter, deftly
opened the box and placed the books on a cart, adding some of the second,
third, and the new fourth book in the series, as they were getting a little on
the low side too.
Erotic romance books were one of the few things she let
herself enjoy these days, and she had several customers who came back to ask
her about the latest and greatest. It was a fantasy land that took her beyond
the walls of hospitals and now, the silence of the apartment at night. Reading
was safe. She never even considered dating again. That part of her life was
over.
Holly shook off the melancholy and hoofed it back onto the
shop floor. Stacking the books onto the table, she arranged them in orderly
piles of gray covers with erotic masks, ties, and handcuffs. She passed the
romance section and gathered up some of her favorites to restock her promo
shelf at the storefront. Cherise Sinclair, Kallypso Masters, Jasmine Haynes,
Red Phoenix, Rachel Kramer Bussel…she loved them all. There were so many great
writers that had made bondage erotica take off. Fifty Shades may have gotten
the public reading again, but she had been a fan for years. Now the movie had
come out for the famous books, and she wondered how it compared.
Smiling wistfully, she caressed the covers and wished her
husband were still with her. She missed his firm hand and their power
exchanges. He had been more than just her husband. He had been her Dom. Losing
him had been the collapse of her entire world. If it hadn’t been for these
books and Gracie, she would still be huddled in a miserable ball, crying her
eyes out and wondering why he had to die. He was so young, and they hadn’t had
much time.
“Can you help ring for a second?” Gracie called out and made
a quick jaunt to the restroom in the back of the store.
Decorating clients’ businesses and homes and working behind the
shop counter kept her busy. Putting up a tree gave her joy, and she saw how
other lives were touched by a few twinkle lights and some tinsel. She’d done
some decorations for the folks in the cancer ward, and this was a natural
transition. If she could bring happiness by hanging a wreath or by delivering
an order of books to a shut-in woman, then she was pleased to do it. It took
her mind off the loneliness and gave her a purpose. This time of year especially.
The front door opened with a blast of snowy air, and an
imposing thirty-something man sporting a thigh-length leather coat blew in. His
chiseled features and mass of dark hair made her catch her breath and falter in
her task of ringing up the woman in front of her. The black sweater he wore
under his coat looked striking against the dark blue of his eyes. The gray
slacks draped over his frame, his black boots befitting the weather outside. He
said nothing to her, his gaze captivated by the display of holiday decorations.
How odd.
He reminded her of one of the Doms in her collection of
books. Heat spiked through parts of her she’d thought were as dead as her
husband. She wondered how it would feel to unwrap that package.
Blushing, Holly turned back to the customer in front of her.
Good grief, she hoped he hadn’t noticed her staring.
Holly finished ringing the books up and slipped them into a
bag. She tossed in a candy cane with a card offering their holiday decorating
services attached. “Here you go. Have a wonderful day.”
The woman waved good-bye and shuffled out the door into the
snow. Looking anywhere but at the enigmatic man in front of her, Holly fought
the sensation of butterflies fluttering in her stomach. He was incredible. The
way his well-built form filled the space made her eyes automatically seek him
out. Warmth stirred in her lower belly, and she nibbled on her lip.
“Hello. Welcome to Harlowe’s.” She fiddled with the hem of
her sweater and felt a surge of heat rush up the sides of her face.
Ugh. How lame was she to just blurt that out?
The man raised an eyebrow, a dark and sensual smile sliding
over his features. “Thank you.” His voice melted over her like chocolate, and
she shivered.
Holly turned away and busied herself with stuffing bags with
holiday activity lists. What kind of horrible woman was she to even be reacting
to another man just a year after her husband’s passing? Lusting after the man
in gray. Her lips thinned. No. She wasn’t ready for those feelings. Especially
not from a stranger she had seen for all of thirty seconds.
She sneaked a glance at him while she straightened gift
bags. He walked up to the Christmas tree in the front window and stroked its
branches. Fingering the ornaments, he explored their small holiday store with a
reverence that reminded her of a priest in church. Men usually didn’t bother
with Christmas tree ornaments, but he was enraptured. It was mystifying.
A flush crept across Holly’s face. Stirrings of longing
zapped through her body as she wondered if this dark-haired stranger knew his
way around a flogger. Sighing deeply, she knelt down to pick up a bag that had
fallen off the counter while she worked.
“Time for a cold shower tonight,” Holly mumbled. Sensing
someone in front of the register, she stood.
“Hi. Did you need help finding anything…?” The very source
of her temptation stood right in front of her. Oh God. She wanted to reach
right across the counter and run her tongue over those amazing lips.
Holidays in Hell is the beginning to my new series, Demons in Darkness. The next two books will be released in 2016.
As a postman by day, and one of Santa’s reindeer on a single
very special night, Cassius Cupid eats, sleeps, and breathes deliveries. He
doesn’t mind, but sometimes wishes that someone would send him something more
exciting than bills and junk mail.
One cold January morning, Cassius gets his wish. A young
woman arrives with a parcel. Turns out it’s for his housemate – but Cassius doesn’t
care. All he’s interested in is Carina – the beautiful female courier.
Cassius Cupid woke with a start, and then sat bolt upright
in his bed. Shit, I’m going to be late! was his first thought.
Milliseconds later his brain switched on, and he remembered.
He was on holiday. Flopping back onto the warm mattress and pillows with a
contented sigh, he smiled. No work for fourteen whole days—it was going to be
utter bliss. He stretched, relishing the feeling it created in his
sleep-softened muscles. Ahhh…this is the life.
He knew he wouldn’t go back to sleep—hell, it was eight
o’clock, which was practically the middle of the day for someone in his
profession—so Cassius fell to thinking about how he was going to spend his day,
not to mention the several others in front of him. God knew he deserved to
relax and have some fun. He’d just emerged from the busiest part of his year,
and he was more than ready to do some chilling out.
He enjoyed his job as a postman—he really did—but the
Christmas period was a total killer. He idly wondered how many cards and
presents he’d delivered over the past few weeks. It didn’t bear thinking about.
Once you factored in the festive period itself, the weird few days between Christmas
and New Year, and then the flurry of mail that got sent when everyone went back
to work properly at the beginning of January, he’d racked up some serious
deliveries. And that was before you even thought about his other job—which was
for just one day a year, but was arguably more important than the other 364 put
together.
Cassius—or Cupid, as he was known to his boss and colleagues
in his second, but most important job—was not only a regular postman for the
Royal Mail, but also a reindeer. For a single day of the year, Cassius had the
supernatural power to transform into one of Santa’s faithful steeds and help
pull that famous magical sleigh, delivering presents to excited children the
world over.
Therefore, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that
Cassius really did eat, sleep and breathe deliveries, but not for the next
fourteen days. All he planned to do was watch some TV, read some books, maybe
go out hiking, meet some friends… basically anything that wasn’t delivering
something to someone. Hey, he might even receive something through the post
himself—preferably not the usual crap; bills and junk mail. He didn’t hold out
much hope.
He lounged in bed for another ten minutes before realising
he was lying there just for the sake of it. Being on holiday didn’t have to
equal staying in bed all day—and certainly not for someone as active as him. He
reached over to his bedside table, grabbed his glasses and put them on.
Throwing off his thick duvet, he walked to his bedroom window and peeked out
through the curtains, immediately glad of the effective central heating he and
his housemate had forked out to have installed the previous year.
The outside world was covered in a thick layer of snow, and
Cassius was mightily glad that he wasn’t out delivering letters and parcels.
The stuff was treacherous enough without having to carry a heavy bag up and
down driveways, paths, and pavements — most of which either hadn’t been
cleared, or had been cleared badly, leaving incredibly slippery patches of
ground for an unsuspecting postie to come across. God knows he’d gone down
enough times, but, much to his relief, nobody had ever seen him do it. He’d
always been relatively unharmed—excerpt for his pride, of course—and had been
able to scramble back to his feet and carry on.
The eerie silence outside was broken by the rumble of an
engine, and Cassius turned his head to look up the street—he lived in a
cul-de-sac, so he knew that’s where the vehicle would come from—and watched as
a delivery van made its way slowly and carefully down the road. He hoped the
driver was sensible enough to try and steer over the thickest parts of the
snow—the more people went over and over the same patches, packing it down, the
more the road surface resembled an ice rink. And since the cul-de-sac was on a
slight hill, it was easy enough to get stuck. He’d seen it so many times—even
going outside one time last winter to suggest the driver go down to the bottom
of the road, turn around and try reversing up the hill—an almost foolproof plan
for vans with rear-wheel drive. He’d gotten a big thumbs-up for that suggestion
as the driver finally got to the junction where the road became flat, and went
on his merry way.
As the van drew closer to his house, he saw that the driver
was a woman. That would explain her cautious driving—he’d never admit it to one
of his drinking buddies, but women were far superior when it came to driving in
adverse weather conditions. He even thought he’d seen some survey containing
statistics that proved it.
