Spliced Blog Tour Day Two

Welcome to Outrageous! We have four authors here today who have written a unique series about shifters. Dish the dirt, ladies!

Do you have plans to write any more Spliced stories?

Sarah – I’ve started one already. Tigorilla, about Armin, a German splicer, who meets up with Benjamin, a wolf shifter. I won’t say any more than that for now, but the story woke me at four in the morning, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I had to get up and write the prologue. I love it when that happens. It means the story will flow when I’m writing, and there’ll be none of that infuriating stalling business where I stare at the screen and try to force words out. I usually walk away at that point, but with Sharkorilla, I was able to keep going because I enjoyed the idea of that world so much. Plus, working with three other authors means you’re all in it together, your work reflects on each other, so I want to create a good book for them as well as readers.

Lavinia - Definitely! I’ve got a Bearorilla story in my head that just won’t leave me alone; in fact, I’ve already started work on it and hope to finish it as soon as I’m done with my other commitments.

Lily - Oh yes, there are many more of these poor spliced souls that need saving. The plot lines are endless, and fun, and oh, so sexy. Plus we can have the characters travel the globe in their search for acceptance and love and their mates.

Jambrea - I would love to. There is so much we can do with the series.

Did you worry about reader reactions to your Spliced Four?

Sarah – At first, yes. I know, being a realist, that the idea of a man being part gorilla, part something else was a stretch of the imagination. Once we started writing and sharing our stories as we went along, though, I knew we had nothing to worry about. Unless I’m biased lol. There will be folks who don’t like our shifters, but as with any book, some people enjoy them, some don’t. But…there will be many, please God, who do like them and fall in love with our boys as much as we did. I have a really big soft spot for this series.

Lavinia - I did. My main concern was that people wouldn’t take the stories seriously. Even though they are the product of a few hours of fun between friends, there is definitely a serious side to the stories. The shifters have a lot of anxiety about how they will be perceived in the outside world. Will they fit in? Will people ridicule them? Will they ever find love when they look the way they do in their shifted form? So yes, readers’ reactions were a concern. There is a little humor in the stories, but there’s also a lot of heart.

Lily - No, I think readers of paranormal are pretty open minded when it comes to shifters, and who is to say, if shifters exist in their suspension of disbelief that spliced shifters can’t? The stories were fun to plot but they come with serious eroticism and handle issues of acceptance and self-belief.

Jambrea - Not really. I think readers are always looking for new and interesting books to read.

Here are the blurbs!

Spliced Series:

When scientists mess with the most primitive elements of a man’s core, the results are bound to be explosive.

Living a loveless existence is hard for any shifter, but having DNA spliced with creatures who stand out from the crowd is damn near impossible. Which is why four experimented-on souls decide to break free from the chains that hold them, climb the fences that circle them, and go in search of adventure, passion and most of all, their mates.

But nothing worth having is ever easy, and for Sharkorilla, Pugorilla, Kangorilla and Elephorilla, this is definitely the case. They’ve come to the end of one very long, hard and frustrating road, but now, with the help of men who have big hearts, they must shed their fears, accept their bodies, and be true to the desires that burn within them. The only problem is, will they get away with it?

Please note, Spliced can be enjoyed as individual stories, but reading in order enhances the pleasure as you get to see the progression of the shifter's sexy adventures.

Sharkorilla – Mason has been tasked with the job of helping his fellow shifters escape from the compound. Two techs need his help to ensure the breakout goes smoothly. One of those techs, Brennan, has a thing for Mason—and Mason has a thing for Brennan too.

Once Mason and his three friends are out of the compound, running for their lives across the expanse of the Yorkshire Moors, Mason wonders whether they’ll manage to be free for more than the time it takes to speed farther than a few feet. Freedom—the feeling of it is addictive, and Mason wants more of it. He isn’t prepared to give it up without a fight.

With Brennan by his side, Mason knows he can accomplish anything. There is one burning question, though. Can Mason really accept who he is? Can he learn to love himself as half shark, half gorilla? If he doesn’t, he has a feeling life won’t be all roses, despite being free of the compound.

So, he’ll just have to give his new life his best shot, won’t he?

Pugorilla - After being created in a lab, his DNA spliced with both canine and primate genes, Dex has spent his entire life locked up. He has always longed to see the outside world and to find lasting love with that one special person—dreams he never thought would come to fruition. Yet when he and his friends discover a plot to kill them all, they have no choice but to plan an escape. A life outside the walls of their compound is everything that Dex has ever hoped for, but there’s only one problem—James, a lab technician who Dex can’t seem to get out of his heart or head.

Kangorilla – Joey has it tough. Not only has he been spliced with a kangaroo and a gorilla, he’s also been brought to the other side of the world. Feeling exploited, desperate and wishing he had love, companionship and acceptance, he takes the risk of leaving the compound in the search of happiness. But will he find it? Or has the person he’s drawn to got other ideas? It certainly seems that way as the temperature goes from boiling hot to downright frosty.

Elephorilla - George hates change, but when his only two options are death or escape, he runs away with his friends into the unknown. Will he be able to find not only a new life, but a new love?

It’s official - I’m a Brit Babe!!!

It’s official - I’m a Brit Babe!!!

You may have noticed the phrase Brit Babes floating about on Facebook and Twitter lately—and this is why...

Myself and seven of my British erotica and erotic romance writer friends have come together to form a group to give you, the wondrous reading public, a fantastic blog to visit to find information about ALL our stories in one place!

I think I can confidently guarantee that all erotica tastes are catered for. Whether you're brand new to erotica, already enjoy a good dose of sexy with your romance or a seasoned reader who’d like to try out a new author, we have something that will tickle your fancy and more!

So - here we are!!

8 British based authors dedicated to bringing you the best sexy reads we possibly can!!

So, here’s a bit about me!

As Natalie Dae I write M/F romance in many genres, although lately I’ve been veering more towards BDSM. I live in a small village outside Oxford in the UK where it’s nice and quiet. I’m very happily married with five children and a grandson. I’m the kind of person who always has to have something to do, hence me having four pen names as well as a full-time job.

Natalie came about when I realised, after writing M/M for a number of years, I’d perhaps confuse readers if I published M/F as Sarah Masters. So Natalie was born, and I haven’t looked back since. I have several titles out with Total-E-Bound, Ellora’s Cave, and one with HarperCollins.

As well as writing by myself, I also co-author with Lily Harlem and have also penned some tales with Sam Crescent. Writing with someone else is always fun. Lily and myself have many works planned for the future, so keep your eyes peeled!

Some of my books include The Contract (BDSM thriller), Shadow and Darkness (BDSM Dommes),Good Cop, Bad Cop (ménage with Lily Harlem) and my Fantasies Explored series.

I’ve been writing as Sarah for several years and have over 35 books to this name. Many of them are unavailable at the moment as I’m going through the process of resubmitting them for re-release. I have a new tale coming soon called Always with Total-E-Bound, and then it’s a busy re-release schedule throughout the year and into 2014. Available now are Tools of Justice (with Jaime Samms) and Hemlock Bones (Clandestine Classic erotic rewrite), both at Total-E-Bound.

As Sarah, 2012 was a whirlwind year of being on TV and in the newspapers. It was all a wonderful yet surreal experience that took me right out of my hermit comfort zone and into having to pull on my big girl knickers and allow people access to my life. Everything has settled down now, and once my responsibilities as my other pen names are fulfilled, I hope to start a new Sarah Masters book.

Geraldine O’Hara is a new author as I wanted to write some books that didn’t fit the voices of either of my other erotica names. Geraldine writes comedy—I wouldn’t say chicklit because it isn’t quite that—but her tales are light, amusing, and will mainly be short stories. At the moment The Pearl Necklace is available and will quickly be followed by Pussy Pwoar and The Key.

I have several books planned for this year as Geraldine, and because they’re so much fun to write I manage to get them done quickly, so stay tuned for new, zany releases by Ms O’Hara!

All my names are in one place, so if you’re interested in knowing more about me, please visit my website www.emmyellis.com

All this week you can visit my fellow Brit Babes personal blogs to find out all about them!

5th - KD Grace
7th - Natalie Dae
8th -  Lexie Bay

And don’t forget the Brit Babe Blog itself which is a library of our books! Come on, join in the fun!!

What has the internet brought into your life?

Emmy Ellis, aka Sarah Masters, Natalie Dae,
Geraldine O'Hara, Posh Gosh, Charley Oweson

I have a lot to be thankful for, and one of those things is the internet. Without it I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today—not just with writing but things in my day-to-day life. I imagine, had I not taken my neighbour’s advice and used the internet—which we had but I’d never accessed—I would still be leading a very boring, scary-at-times life where I was never allowed to be my true self.

However, the internet opened up the world for me, and I met people who told me—sometimes bluntly, sometimes slathered in sugar coating—that I wasn’t in a life that I should be in. At first, their words didn’t register—after all, I’d been conditioned in ways where other people’s input wasn’t anything I should listen to, except, of course, if it came from certain individuals.

One day, someone said something to me in an instant message that changed my life forever. I began to think about what had been said, applied it to my life, and saw that yes, my God yes, that person was right. I needed to do things that I’d always wanted to do but hadn’t had the courage to do so. One was breaking away from a dominant force in my life—a woman I will not acknowledge as being anything to do with me ever again—and the second was to break from another force—male this time.

I divorced the pair of them and moved on, feeling freer than I’d ever been before. Things felt “right”. I felt “right”. Thus began my journey of self-discovery, knowing that I could act on whatever thoughts I wanted without them being frowned upon or advice coming my way to talk me into not doing things. For once I was able to be me—but it took a long time (years) for me to get used to being allowed that “privilege”. There are still times now where insecurity kicks in and I slip back to how I was, but they are few and far between.

I am not the same person I was. I am not frightened of much these days, and some say I’m so laid back I might fall over. I’ve learned, for the most part, not to sweat the small stuff, not to be bothered by little things that really are a waste of my thought time. I have learned to love myself, to be myself, and to not feel that doing so is wrong.

I’ve also met a wealth of people I would never have met if not for logging on for the first time that day.

I’ve made best friends for life out of total strangers.

I have cooked food I would never have eaten.

I have watched a man struggling through cancer and be so damn upbeat about it that I can do nothing but admire him. His battle is still going on and I’m rooting for him. While being so sick, he is still writing, still fighting to meet a deadline on a book so he doesn’t let his readers down. My God, what a man.

I have watched a woman fight cancer also, watched as her hair fell out and she was so tired she couldn’t think straight, yet still she ploughed on to care for her parents. I’ve watched the caring attitude of her other half, the way he is her world and she is his, the way he cares for her and nothing is too big a request. In that particular instance, I have watched pure love and continue to watch it.

I have gained a full-time job, one I love, and found that my boss is someone who I can tell my darkest secrets to—those really, really dark ones where you cry until your stomach hurts and you can’t get the words out, and she waits patiently on the other end of the line for me to tell her how I feel. She is there for me, any time, all the time, and in her I have seen the bright glimmer of an angel.

I have met some women, those who have become my close friends, who, if they lived near me, would be round my house at the drop of a hat to help me in times of need. If they had the spare cash, I have no doubt they would hop on a plane or in the car just so they could give me a hug and tell me everything will be all right. I don’t speak to them all the time—we have the kind of friendship where we’re like stars; you can’t always see them but they’re always there—and I am eternally grateful for them.

I have three special friends who I can totally be myself with—and I mean totally. We’re talking about the fact that I can say, “God, I need a big shit!” Friends where TMI doesn’t exist. They make me laugh, make me cry (in a good way!), they understand. They are the best, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet with two of them in real life. One day I will meet the third, please God.

I have been able to write and be published. Be on TV, in the newspapers. Had people read my work.

I have indulged in being myself behind the scenes, doing things for people just because I can. I have done these things for nothing but the pleasure of doing so. I have given gifts, something I love doing, and cried with those people when they’ve received them. I have felt the power of good deeds, of the priceless feelings you get when doing them.

I have been used, shit on, talked about, slated, accused of many things I haven’t done—but still I continue on, because those negative things teach me something new every time. They help me to grow.

I have made some bad calls, said some things I shouldn’t have said—many I regret as I walk through the world that is the internet, many I wish I could erase—and stumbled with etiquette, struggled with fitting in, finding my place. Accepted that some people will like me, others won’t—the same with my art and writing—knowing that I will continue anyway, doing what I love, being who I am.

But most of all, and the best thing of all, is that I am always evolving, always finding new things out about myself that I honestly don’t think I would have if it wasn’t for the vast amount of interaction that is to be had online. I would never have laughed so hard my ribs ached because of seeing a picture of dogs’ noses that looked like alien faces. I would never have cried at the video of a man who enjoyed life despite having no arms and legs—a man who changed my perspective. I would never have seen and been taught so many things.

I’ll continue to grow, I’m sure, continue to read status updates that touch me, witness snippets of people’s lives that they have been brave enough to share. To read books by people where I’ve seen their process and thoughts as they’ve been writing that book and know how much sweat and tears went in to creating it. To read memoirs like one I read at the end of last year by a woman who was so very courageous in writing it that I’ll always be in awe of her—she laid herself wide open and changed my perspective forever.

I will continue to be me as you continue to be you. Through the connection of Facebook and emails, I have the wonderful opportunity of being a part of your lives. We are all connected in a magnificent way, so many people tied by threads—some thicker than others, but threads all the same. We are so very lucky.

Thank you.

Bad Decision? Nah, Just Being Me.

Ignoring your instinct really isn’t a good thing. Yesterday, I decided to listen to that inner voice and make a decision—one I wouldn’t have had to make if I’d listened to my instincts in the first place. For the first 28 years of my life I ignored my inner voice, and life was pretty odd most of the time. Nothing went right. I was unhappy, even though on the outside no one would have known. I didn’t feel “me”, and everything I did was based on what other people would expect me to do.

One day I had a horrible feeling that if I continued the way things were, I’d never get to do anything I’d always dreamed of doing. So I cut the deadwood, got divorced, remarried, and decided that it was high time I was “me”. My now-husband spent the first few years of our life together teaching me to like, then love myself. He taught me that to be me is the best thing I could ever do. I finally started to believe him about three years ago, and that’s when my life and careers changed drastically.

It’s amazing what you can do when you truly believe in yourself and others believe in you too.

Recently, I was asked to write a novel for one of the “Big Guys”. I was excited to have been asked, humbled too, and set about zapping out a book that was needed pretty quickly. I knew, while writing it, that it wasn’t going to be a fit for them, but no matter how I tried, I couldn’t force it to squeeze into the needed box. So I allowed it to come out as it wanted to, and the result, I feel, was well worth me going with that inner voice.

I pressed SEND to submit it and knew it had been the wrong thing to do. It’s bothered me every single day that I did the wrong thing. So yesterday I queried the sub process and got some feedback. As I’d suspected, the book would need major rejigging to fit into the box it had been intended for. I thought about it, knew I didn’t want to rejig, knew it didn’t need rejigging, and that inner voice told me to pull.

I slept on it.

Then today I pulled.

Many people might be shocked at my decision. Years ago I would have been shocked had someone told me they had, what some might see as “squandered” an opportunity. I don’t see it that way. I’m 40. I know me. I know what’s right for my well-being. Rejigging that book would have made a bit of me fizzle out. Yep, that sounds dramatic, but that’s the way it is. No amount of shelf space is worth me being unhappy.

I’m incredibly lucky that I have other options. Now, I play the waiting game again, and if the book is rejected, I’ll self-publish. If it doesn’t do well that way, it doesn’t matter. I feel good about what I’ve done, and I’ve been sad for the past couple of weeks with my original decision gnawing at me.

I have been true to my book. To myself.

And damn, it’s an amazing feeling.

The Sweetest Revenge

I won't repeat the story of how this anthology came to be, if you scroll down and check out Lily's post, she's divulged all the details ;)

But what I will say is how much fun it was to write my particular story. When I snagged the sin "pride" for my story, I had no idea what I was going to do with it. Lily had suggested I penned a lesbian tale and so I fixed that in my mind. Then, one day when I was walking my dog, the idea came to me. I continued thinking as I walked, and by the time I got home again, I pretty much knew what I was going to do. I had other projects to finish up before I could start the story, but that gave it time to marinade in my brain.

Finally, I started writing The Sweetest Revenge. And once I started it, I think I had it finished pretty quickly, too. My sexy Sapphic tale about a smokin' hot biker chick and the girl that fancies her was born!

Here's the blurb:

Abigail’s had a crush on Mackenzie the motorcycle courier for months, but Mackenzie doesn’t even know she exists. Nothing exists for Mackenzie, though, except for her pride and joy – her Ducati Monster.

After an unpleasant encounter, Abigail decides to get her own back on Mackenzie – in the worst possible way. Despite the pleas of her colleagues, Abigail plans to hide Mackenzie’s precious motorbike, and take the haughty bitch down a peg or two.

Naturally, when Mackenzie discovers her bike is gone, there are fireworks. It’s April 1st, so she suspects trickery rather than criminal activity, but that doesn’t mean the person responsible will be getting off lightly…

And a snippet from the book:

As soon as she heard the roar of the engine, Abigail’s heart rate increased. She could recognise it at quite some distance now, and as it drew closer to her office building, she could feel the vibrations beneath her feet.

Grabbing a handful of documents from the pile on her desk, Abigail headed over to the photocopier which stood by the window. That way, she could pretend she was duplicating paperwork, when in fact she was looking out of the window at the motorcycle and its rider.

And there she was. Mackenzie, in all her leather-clad glory, thundering into the car park. Her beautiful red hair flapped beneath the helmet, slowing to a stop as the motorcycle did. The khaki green mean machine, as Abigail had nicknamed it, was as stunning as ever. Between them, rider and bike made a very attractive picture. One Abigail could quite happily look at all day long.

She realised she hadn’t actually made any attempt to photocopy anything yet, so she hastily shoved one of the pieces of paper under the lid, keyed in the command for thirty copies and pressed the green button. Then she was free to gaze out of the window for a good long while before anyone suspected anything.

Not that it was any big secret, anyway. The entire office knew of Abigail’s crush on the motorcycle courier, and she was often teased about it. The only reason she wasn’t being ribbed right there and then was because nobody else was tuned into the motorcycle’s engine noise frequency like she was—they wouldn’t have realised Mackenzie was here unless they looked out of the window. Glancing behind her, Abigail saw that everyone was engrossed in what they were doing, so she could perv out of the window, completely undisturbed and without mockery.

Turning back, she saw that Mackenzie had now put the Ducati Monster on its stand and flung one long leg over it. She tugged off her heavy duty leather gloves, lay them on the seat and proceeded to undo her helmet. Abigail held her breath. This bit was always her favourite. The way the younger woman managed to still look gorgeous when removing a motorcycle helmet was incredible. Her long red hair flowed free, and after a couple of quick finger-combs, it looked immaculate. For the hundredth time, Abigail wondered what her secret was. She was sure if she went on a motorcycle without tying her hair back, it would look like a rat’s nest by the time she arrived anywhere.

Clipping the helmet’s chin-strap back together, the courier then hung it from one of the handlebars, pulled the keys from the ignition and moved to the box attached to the back of the bike. She unlocked it, retrieved two small parcels and shut and locked the lid before retrieving the keys and walking towards the front door of the building. She wore sensible, rather than fashionable, boots and leathers and they lent her walk a strange gait. Abigail didn’t care. She was so infatuated with the woman that it would take more than that to put her off.

She watched as Mackenzie made her way into the building and was eventually lost from sight. Switching her attention to her fake photocopying, she saw that the dated machine was still chugging its way through the original thirty copies she’d requested. She grinned. At this rate, it’d still be going by the time the courier exited the building and got back on her bike. If there was someone at Reception, then of course the process of having a parcel signed for was speedy. Usually, that’s what happened. But occasionally if there was some super-sensitive reason no one else could handle the delivery, the member of staff it was for would have to come and sign for it themselves. That, of course, meant it could take much longer, depending on whereabouts they were in the building and how long it would take them to get to the front desk.

Abigail herself could be at Reception in under a minute from her desk, and would gladly be, if her presence was requested by the goddess Mackenzie. All she would have to do was click her fingers and Abigail would come running. And not just for a parcel. For whatever reason she damn well felt like giving.

Something Else - Sarah Masters

EXPLICIT IMAGERY BELOW

There’s something pretty humbling about being asked to write a story, one that would end up in an anthology with some seriously brilliant authors. That’s what happened to me with Seven Deadly Sins. I received an email asking if I’d like to participate, and I chose Wrath as my sin. I had no clue what it’d be about and sat there mulling it over one evening. I asked my husband for a scenario, and neither of us could come up with anything. Blank, the pair of us. I stared into space, and suddenly this man manifested in my head. He’d been in prison, sent away for a crime he hadn’t committed, and I knew I had to find out what on earth he would do to put things right.

Something Else was born, an M/M story, and I was taken on a journey over one weekend where I couldn’t stop writing. His tale poured out, and after sending it to the marvellous Lily Harlem to read through it for me, I submitted, held my breath while doing so, and convinced myself my tale wouldn’t be accepted.

The illustration in Something Else
When it was, I got that thrill that runs through every author upon acceptance. And then the news came in that it would go to print, be for sale in bricks-and-mortar stores, and the shakes set in. That had been my dream since forever, and to know I’d managed one of my big goals was a poignant moment. I confess I had a little cry. To have that book in my hands and know it was on several shelves throughout the UK made me giddy. I felt sick for a long time after I’d opened the box—too much excitement makes Sarah Masters a pitiful wreck.

Each tale has a beautifully drawn illustration to go with it. Waterstones are the only ones at present who will stock the ebooks with the images included, so that’s where you need to go if you’d like to see the pictures on your reading device. Amazon and WH Smith also sell the book. Typing out those shop names has just made me come over all weird again—I still can’t get over how swiftly my writing career has changed from struggling to become noticed, to now. Dreams do indeed come true.

My tale is also available on its own, as are all the stories in the anthology.

I hope you enjoy the book in all its magnificent erotic glory. Long live rudeness, filth and debauchery!

Hugs,

Sarah Masters
